WITH VIDEO: Dozens of mothers besieged a Brighton store in a protest about breastfeeding.

About 25 mums and their babies took part in the campaign near the trainer section of the Sports Direct store in North Street Brighton yesterday – in response to a shopper who was forced to leave the Nottingham branch of the chain for feeding her three-month-old baby.

Mother to one-year-old Sebastian and Brighton breastfeeding support worker Stacie Madden organised yesterday’s flashmob after the sports shop allegedly refused to apologise for ejecting the young mother.

She said: “It’s not just for the mother in Nottingham and ourselves – it’s for the future generation, for our daughters to be able to breastfeed in public without fear and judgement.

“We want Sports Direct to apologise and retrain their staff.

“It’s important to raise awareness of women’s rights to feed in public and make people realise breastfeeding is normal and natural.”

Last night a Sports Direct spokeswoman said the company was not commenting on the incident in Nottingham or the flashmobs.
