HUNDREDS of disco divas and dudes will fill Brighton’s streets this summer in what is expected to be the biggest Pride parade ever.

Organisers are expecting the rhythmic snake that is the Pride LGBT Community Parade to be longer and louder than ever with more than 55 businesses and community groups already signed up.

Registration is up 40% on last year’s event for the eye-catching parade which will begin at the foot of the Brighton Wheel in Madeira Drive on Saturday, August 2, at 11am.

Flares, hot pants and head bands will be the order for the day for this year’s event with the theme of “the world’s a disco”.

More than at 160,000 are expected to take to the streets to watch and cheer them on.

The parade is the traditional bright opening to the Pride celebrations which will lead one and all towards Preston Park for the party in the park event.

Boy band Blue, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and disco diva Martha Wash have already been named as performers with more set to be announced in the run-up to the day.

New entrants to this year’s parade include top hairdressers Trevor Sorbie, who are Pride sponsors for this year, and the City of London Police.

A whole range of organisations ranging from Girlguiding Sussex East, the Sussex Beacon, National Union of Teachers Southern Region, Brighton and Hove Filipino Community and Out at Tesco are already signed up.

Trevor Sorbie salon manager Alison Stevens said the company was very excited to “come on board” as an official partner as they celebrate their tenth anniversary in Brighton and Hove.

She added: “Pride is such an important event in the city that we felt we had to come on board to show our support for the great work the organisation does in raising awareness and funds for the LGBT community.”

Paul Kemp, Pride Brighton and Hove managing director, said: “The response so far has been amazing with parade entries confirmed by a rainbow of community groups and businesses.

“We are incredibly honoured to have each and every one of the organisations that have signed up involved and can’t wait to see how they turn the world into a disco for one day.”
