Riders have set off for the tenth annual South Downs Way Cycle Challenge, a gruelling cycle through the national park.

The brave riders will scale some of the steepest hills in Sussex on the exhausting, three-day ride with overnight camping in Midhurst and Brighton.

Every cyclist on the challenge has collected at least £150 in sponsorship money, which will all go to The Argus Appeal.

The cyclists set off at 6.30am from Brighton Rugby Club on Friday. Their journey will take them to Winchester, Midhurst, back to Brighton and then on to Eastbourne The Argus Appeal supports a range of causes which help individuals, families, groups and other charities.

It has been working for 55 years and aims to raise at least £200,000 a year to help organisations and charities across the region.
