The Argus: Volunteers and firms join together for clean-up Volunteers and firms join together for clean-up

DOZENS of people are expected to descend on Brighton and Hove beach next week to take part in the annual Big Beach Clean-Up event.

The Argus is organising the event, which takes place on Tuesday, May 27 from 8.30am to 10.30am, hoping to build on the success of last year.

Starting from the Palace Pier, volunteers will be joined by local business representatives for the big event.

Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton |Pavilion, will be among those helping.

She said: “We are the number one seaside resort and growing as a destination for tourists staying overnight so it’s vital we look after the city’s wonderful beaches for visitors and local residents to fully enjoy.

“The Argus Big Beach Clean-Up makes a real difference, alongside steps to reduce waste and get people to dispose of their rubbish responsibly, and I’ll be down on the beach lending a hand.”

And Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby said: “I am pleased that I will again be helping out at the Big Beach Clean-Up, and I look forward to doing my part in keeping Brighton Beach a pleasant attraction for tourists and locals alike.”

I enjoyed hearing today about the Blue Flag status that B&H falsely claims to have despite not entering the scheme.

well its like the food hygiene stickers in eating establishments its not compulsory to have them..
but what i am shocked about is just how many they are expecting... DOZENS of people are expected to descend on Brighton and Hove beach next week to take part in the annual Big Beach Clean-Up event
let me think about this the beach is about 4 / 6 miles and the widest it is is ... 50 meters this means that a group of people can walk fro either direction with maybe a few more in the middle and do a methodical "picking up thing.." much like the police do when searching for evidence .. what ever happened to the we are going to take fingerprints off the litter and make a database of offenders ? was it an april fool ?

and will the litterl pickers maybe continu the patrol all accross the area as i am sure they have noticed some parts still have not recovered since the refuse collectors strike
