DOZENS of people are expected to descend on Brighton and Hove beach next week to take part in the annual Big Beach Clean-Up event.

The Argus is organising the event, which takes place on Tuesday, May 27 from 8.30am to 10.30am, hoping to build on the success of last year.

Starting from the Palace Pier, volunteers will be joined by local business representatives for the big event.

Caroline Lucas, MP for Brighton |Pavilion, will be among those helping.

She said: “We are the number one seaside resort and growing as a destination for tourists staying overnight so it’s vital we look after the city’s wonderful beaches for visitors and local residents to fully enjoy.

“The Argus Big Beach Clean-Up makes a real difference, alongside steps to reduce waste and get people to dispose of their rubbish responsibly, and I’ll be down on the beach lending a hand.”

And Brighton Kemptown MP Simon Kirby said: “I am pleased that I will again be helping out at the Big Beach Clean-Up, and I look forward to doing my part in keeping Brighton Beach a pleasant attraction for tourists and locals alike.”
