A number of historic coins and jewellery items have been stolen in a burglary.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the break-in at a property in Stoney Stile Close, Bognor, between April 11 and 13.

The residents had returned from a holiday to find a number of items had gone.

They included gold sovereign coins featuring President Makarios of Cyprus and George III, two golden medallions from Rome with the signs of Alpha and Omega on them and two gold krugerrands from South Africa.

A gold wedding ring with 'I LOVE YOU' cut out of the outside of the band was also taken along with a gold folding charm bracelet from Russia with various gold eggs hanging from it and a religious sacrament box used for giving communion with INS engraved on the lid.

A police spokesman said: "We're keen to speak to anyone who has been offered the chance to buy any of the items.

"Many of them are very distinctive and would be memorable if you saw them. If you know anything about them or the burglary, please call us."
