Staff held at knife-point in Lower Horsebridge near Hailsham

The Argus: Several thousand pounds robbed as post office is held up Several thousand pounds robbed as post office is held up

Two robbers stole several thousand pounds in cash after a post office was held up.

Just after 10am yesterday, the men entered the post office and store at North Street, Lower Horsebridge, near Hailsham, threatened the member of post office counter staff with a knife, and stole several thousand pounds cash from a safe behind the counter.

The member of staff, a man in his sixties, sustained arm and shoulder bruising as he tried to prevent one of the men getting through the counter door, but did not require hospital treatment.

There were no customers in the store at the time, and one member of store staff was present but was not hurt.

The two robbers fled in a old maroon Ford Escort, which drove away northward in the direction of the A267 and Heathfield.

It was found abandoned in Hellingly shortly afterwards.

One of the suspects, who had the knife and took the cash, is described as in his late twenties, medium build, about 6ft, wearing a black hoodie and scarf.

The other suspect is described as in his early twenties, about 5'10", wearing a grey hooded top, grey jogging bottoms, and a black scarf. He wore a small black rucksack on his back.

It is not yet known whether there was a third man driving the car.

Detective Sergeant Suzy Joseph said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw the men enter or leave the store, or who saw the car after it left the scene.

"If you can help please call us on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Fountain.

"You can also call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."

Well, you can't blame the staff for that. They are probably in a very bad state of shock after the incident. Let us hope the thugs get caught before they can carry out any more robberies. The trouble is sentences are so ludicrously feeble, it won't make much difference.
