HUNGRY for a challenge?

Food lovers can now get their teeth into this giant burger and raise money for charity at the same time.

Chef Russell Tisbury has thrown down the gauntlet to anyone with the appetite to try out the monster meal.

The huge burger costs £35, is 30cm in diameter and comes with a side order of 1lb of fries.

Those who manage to finish it within one hour will get their money back, their picture on the wall and a T-shirt.

All profits and proceeds from the challenge will be going to the Martlets Hospice in Hove.

Mr Tisbury, chef at the Temple Bar in Western Road, Brighton, is supporting the hospice in memory of his mum Ann Donovan.

She was cared for by the hospice team up until her death in December 2004.

Mr Tisbury said: “The hospice is a cause that is very close to my heart. My mum was cared for there and I know of other friends and family who have been connected to it over the years.

“I’ve always wanted to do something a little bit different and a bit special to raise some money and so I came up with this idea.

“The burger is absolutely huge and it will be interesting to see just how many people are going to be able to take on this challenge.

“There has already been a huge amount of interest on Facebook and I’ve got a lot of people talking.”

Anyone interested in taking up the challenge needs to contact Mr Tisbury in advance so he can make all the preparations for the specially made burger.

They will also have to sign a disclaimer and agree to abide by the rules, before taking it on.

Mr Tisbury is being helped with the ingredients by local suppliers Ashmore Farm, Home Cakery and Adam’s Food.

Hospice director of fundraising, Robert Griffiths, said: “Our supporters do some incredible things to raise funds for us, but Russell’s burger challenge is probably the biggest and the meatiest.

“I’m sure there will be lots of support for this challenge and on behalf of everyone at the Martlets I’d like to thank Russell for choosing to support us.

“As Russell knows first-hand, we care for local people who are affected by terminal illness.

“It’s a free service, but we have to raise £9,000 a day to care for our patients and their families.

“We simply could not do this without support from our local community. Good luck to everyone who takes on the 50oz burger challenge.”

The burger will go on the menu from Thursday (june 5) and updates and contact details can be found on the Facebook page Tisbury at the Temple.
