An appeal has been made for witnesses to an attack which left a wedding guest with a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain.

A 35-year-old man was attacked outside the Swan Hotel in High Street, Arundel, between 11.30pm and midnight on Saturday April 12. The incident was not immediately reported to police.

The victim was taken to Southampton General Hospital for treatment.

He had been standing outside the hotel and looking at his mobile phone while waiting for a taxi when he was assaulted. He was wearing a dark blue pinstripe suit with a white shirt.

The attacker was white, between 25 and 35 and of average build and height. He had short dark hair and was wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and dark trousers.

Detective Constable Andrea Watts said: "We were only told about the incident days later and have been trying to piece together exactly what happened since then.

"We believe the victim was assaulted by a man who then went up the hill towards Arundel Cathedral.

"The victim was well dressed so you would remember if you saw him being involved in an argument or attacked in the street.

"If you saw or heard anything at all please contact us."

A 32-year-old man from Ford was arrested and questioned on suspicion of assault before being released on bail until 3 July.
