NHS workers across Sussex have taken part in a national day of protest over the Government’s pay policy.
Members of Unison, the Royal College of Nursing and the GMB were among those taking part.
Workers were hoping for a 1% pay rise across the board for all NHS staff but Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt announced only a smaller number would get an increase.
It means 60% of workers will receive no raise at all.
Yesterday, Unison members from the Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust wore David Cameron masks and waved placards as they gathered outside the trust’s offices at Aldrington House in New Church Road, Hove.
Branch secretary Peter Atkinson said: “Inflation never stays still and NHS staff are bearing the brunt of this damaging and destructive pay policy.”
NHS workers say they are under pressure to deliver more services with fewer people but at the same time their pay has fallen in real terms.
Unions were also running stalls and handing out leaflets at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, Eastbourne District General Hospital and Conquest Hospital in St Leonards.
