A rail passenger suffered a cardiac arrest while waiting for a late night train.
South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics and British Transport Police officers were called to platform three at Hove Station at around 10.30pm on Friday night after reports that a patient, believed to be a man, had suffered a cardiac arrest.
Eye witnesses told The Argus that there was a sustained operation by paramedics to try and save the man’s life with chest compressions at the scene.
In the past hour, British Transport Police have confirmed that the man had sadly passed away at the scene.
One eye witness Alan Fisher said: “There were lots of police and medics at the station, it appeared as though somebody had collapsed on platform three.
“I saw medics trying to resuscitate with chest pumping which went on for several minutes before they ceased.
“Sadly when it ceased there did not seem a great urgency and I did not see anybody get up before my train left soon after."
An employee at the nearby Station pub said: “I live above the pub and I saw the lights of the emergency services so I rushed down because I was worried it was something to do with the pub.
“I could see it was in the station and I could see that somebody had collapsed on the train station platform.
“I could see the paramedics giving the person CPR but I couldn’t see who they were giving it to and I didn’t want to approach any closer.”
A British Transport Police spokesman said: "BTP officers attended Hove railway station on Friday 6th June after a male collapsed.
"The incident was reported to BTP at 22:34 and was also attended by officers from Sussex Police.
"South East Coast Ambulance Service paramedics attended however the male was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The next of kin have been advised and the incident is being treated as non-suspicious."
