A COLLEGE principal has said the decision by union members to strike today is “inconveniencing students at a crucial time”.

Lynn Thackway, principal and chief executive of City College Brighton and Hove, has said she understands the decision by members of the University of College Union to strike but said it was “regrettable”.

She said: “Although we understand the position of UCU members in regards to proposed changes to staffing at the college and fully respect their right to strike, it’s regrettable that this strike is inconveniencing students at a crucial time in the academic year and is also occurring while the consultation process is ongoing and its final outcome is yet to be confirmed.”

Union members are striking over cuts the college is making as it tries to find £1.5 million worth of savings.
