A man was hit in the face with a piece of wood and another punched in separate incidents at a gig.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the pair of assaults at Goodwood racecourse on Friday (June 6) where band Chase and Status were playing.

The first saw a 45-year-old man hit in the face with a piece of wood as he left the entrance and headed towards Town Lane at 11.40pm.

He was taken to St Richard's Hospital, Chichester, where he was treated for facial injuries.

The second saw a 30-year-old man assaulted in the coach park at the racecourse at 11.45pm.

He went to hospital where he was found to have a broken eye socket and fractured cheek bone.

Both victims did not see their attackers and told police they were hit from behind.

Detective Constable Mike McKee said: "These two men were assaulted as hundreds of people were leaving the event. We want to hear from anyone who saw them being hit or has anyone information.

“Police are working with the Goodwood Estate and Chichester District Council to investigate the incidents.”
