A teenage girl attacked two men in a racially aggravated assault.

The 17-year-old, from Brighton, who cannot be named due to her age, was fined £90 for the assault in Dyke Road, Brighton, on May 20.

She also pleaded guilty to a separate common assault and was made the subject of a six month referral order.

Separately, a woman from Redhill, in Surrey, was given a 12 week curfew order for a racially motivated assault on a member of staff in the Octopus Bar in Crawley.

She also pleaded guilty to criminal damage after breaking candles in the High Street venue and was ordered to pay a £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

The curfew, from 8pm-8am daily, will be monitored by an electronic tag.

Sergeant Peter Allan, Sussex Police hate crime sergeant, said: "These sentences send out a clear signal that we will take a robust approach to those who target individuals based on their race, disability, gender identity, religion or sexual orientation.

"I hope it will encourage other victims of hate crime to report such behaviour to the police.
