A NEW information board celebrating an iconic seaside square has been unveiled.
Recently appointed Mayor of Brighton and Hove Brian Fitch lead the grand unveiling of the new Regency Square information board in Brighton on Saturday.
The prestigious square was built in the early 19th century when Brighton was enjoying a growth boom fed by the budding tourist trade.
Councillor Fitch said: “It was a fantastic day, the sun was shining and it showed the gardens in their full beauty.
“I am really pleased and was able to thank these friends of the square – they are working all year round to improve the area.
“Many years ago the square was dilapidated but thanks to them it has been restored to its former glory.”
The information board shows photos from the square during its construction and an original painting displaying the view towards the sea before construction started.It was funded by the Regency Square Society which aims to preserve and improve the area.
The gardens in Regency Square have also had poppies from France planted in their North East corner to commemorate 100 years since the start of the First World War.
