THE Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust in West Sussex has been shortlisted for an award at the 2014 Biffa Awards.

The awards recognise people who transform their communities through Biffa Award-funded projects.

The Trust received £50,000 in funding to create a new lake at the Arundel Wetland Centre. The site now boasts water voles, grass snakes and several species of bat.

The Arundel Riverlife project will now compete against three other organisations from across the country to be the winner of the Rebuilding Biodiversity category.

The awards will be held on October 9 at the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich.

Category winners will receive a trophy and prize money of £2,000, which can be used to develop projects.

Each winner has the chance of being crowned the overall winner for 2014, receiving a further £1,000 prize.
