A Chinese lion, arts and crafts, sports, games, stalls and music were all on offer as residents came together to celebrate one year since the regeneration of The Level in Brighton.

The major £2 million restoration of The Level carried out by Brighton and Hove City Council was completed last summer so residents, councillors and park users got together for the Loving Our Level Day.

The council organised the fun day in collaboration with the newly formed Level Communities Forum – a group of people committed to working with the council and others for the park's long-term benefit.

Michael Bairstow, vice chairman of the Level Communities Forum, said: “The transformation of The Level has been amazing, there is real enthusiasm for the park and as a forum we are planning more events for the future.”

Visitors enjoyed a performance from Adriana Lord from the Banyan Tree Theatre Group.

The group entertained with storytelling, dance and song sessions for the children.

The Women’s Institute was also on hand with members from the Brighton Belles group, Hanover Queen and the Witches of Bevendean there to help out selling cakes and appealing for new members.

A team of volunteer Level Makers was also on hand to meet and greet visitors.

And residents’ associations hosted an information marquee, showcasing successful estate regeneration projects.

There was also a gardening question-and-answer session which featured gardening expert Jean Griffin.

Councillor Pete West, chairman of Brighton and Hove City Council's environment, transport and sustainability committee, said: “The restoration of The Level has been a big success and the new-look park is extremely popular.”

The People’s History of The Level exhibition was also on show as there was a guided history walk around the park in conjunction with the council’s Healthwalks programme.
