A fitness fanatic will try to break a gruelling world record for charity in an attempt dedicated to his late brother.

Troy Smith, 46, managing director of Oranka fruit juice and smoothie company, of Brackenbury Close, Portslade, will be aiming to hold an “abdominal hover plank position” with 100lbs on his back for longer than 2 minutes 55 seconds to set a new Guinness World Record.

For the attempt at Virgin Active Health Club, Rustington, he will have his forearms and toes on the floor and a rucksack on his back containing weights.

Mr Smith said: “I’m sure I will break the record. I got within four seconds last night.

“I can do a 45-minute ‘plank’ but with a weight it’s going to be a lot tougher.”

Mr Smith weighs 72 kilos and can dead lift – lift weights off the ground and stand up straight – 180 kilos, twoand- a-half times his body weight.

Mr Smith is the chairman of the London board of Hospitality Action, a charity for people in the hospitality industry, which will receive all the money he raises.

The attempt is dedicated to Mr Smith’s brother, Lee Smith, who died aged 34 in 2012 from drug and alcohol misuse.

Mr Smith said: “In the next year, Hospitality Action are going to help over 3,000 individuals who work in the industry – some of whomwill have drug or alcohol misuse issues such as the ones my brother dealt with.”

He has helped Hospitality Action to raise more than £1 million since 2005.

He said: “Every year it gets harder, as everyone I know has already given – I’m always trying to find new initiatives.

“In a couple of years I’ll have to chop my head off and I’ll only get a hundred quid for it.”

In September he will travel to Colorado for the Tough Mudder 13-mile obstacle course, which involves electrotherapy and ice baths.

Entrance to the recordbreaking attempt at 2pm on June 22 is £5 and includes a free super smoothie.

Mr Smith said: “It’s a chance to see a world record attempt.

“Also you’ll love the black carrot, pomegranate and high fibre smoothie.”
