The two men who died in a tragic diving incident have been identified. 

Both men lost their lives after they were airlifted to hospital following an incident while diving in the English Channel off Eastbourne from Brighton-based dive boat the Channel Diver.

They were rushed to hospital following the incident off-shore but were pronounced dead.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "The men who tragically died in a diving incident in the English Channel off Eastbourne on Saturday (14 June) have been formally identified.

"Peter Stanning, 44, of Highbury Hill, North London, and Christopher Mehegan, 45, of Brentwood, Essex had been with a group of divers.

"The post mortems are set for Wednesday."
