A VIP nightclub has been criticised after advertising for “young”, “attractive” and “flirtatious” staff.

Shooshh, on Kings Road Arches, describes itself as Brighton’s first VIP super club after a £1 million transformation.

But it was criticised after warning jobseekers CVs without photos would not be considered.

After being contacted by The Argus the club said the advert was a “mistake” and has now changed the wording.

The super club boasts celebrity appearances by The Only Way is Essex star Mark Wright and Eastenders hard man Danny Dyer.

It hosts popular and racy nights such as Runray Fridays and Glam Saturdays.

The job ad, posted on Gumtree, sates: “Shooshh is looking for young, intelligent and attractive people to work as Bar Staff and Waitresses in its busy sea front venue for day and night trade. Applicants must be fluent in English, punctual, reliable, sociable, friendly, confident, vocal and flirtatious!”

The ad told applicants: “CVs WITHOUT PHOTOS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED FOR THE POSITION.”

Nick Mosley, director of the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival, said: “I think a business is better served by employing people who are good at the job, rather than just look pretty.”

He added: “It's not the first time I've seen this kind of thing. A bar in Hove recently specified female only applicants, which I'm sure isn't in line with equality legislation.”

A club manager blamed a “junior member of staff” on the advert and insisted no photo was necessary to apply.

Manager Darius Bilinda said: “A member of staff has used their own initiative and put this ad up but it’s a mistake and not the kind of thing I would have put up.

“The ad will be coming down as soon as possible.

“We’re an equal opportunities company.

“If you came down you would see all the different types of people working for us.”

The club has received a mixed reception on online reviews site Trip Advisor.

Elle Wilcox, of Brighton, gave it five stars, saying: “Fantastic venue and will definitely be back down soon!”

But Amber Marco, of Brighton, gave it zero stars.
