An officer was assaulted and one person detained after a badly driven car was stopped by police.

Witnesses are being sought to the incident in Crawley at 9.30pm on Friday May 30.

A silver Vauxhall Astra was being driven north along the B2036 Balcombe Road. It picked up speed and failed to give way at a roundabout at the junction with Turners Hill Road, causing other vehicles to brake sharply.

A police patrol used blue lights to stop the vehicle, but an officer was then assaulted as a passenger in the car fled on foot.  The driver was detained.

Anyone who saw the manner in which the vehicle was being driven, who saw what happened once it was stopped or who has any other relevant information is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
