A total of 14 more people have been charged with drink-driving offences under Operation Dragonfly.

A French driver has been banned from driving after he was caught veering across the road while drunk.

Dimitry Cougy was arrested at 5.15am on Thursday after he was spotted driving his Volkswagen Passat erratically in Marine Drive, Brighton.

When officers stopped Cougy, 20, of Villotte St Seine, France, he was breathalysed and found to be twice the drink-drive limit.

Cougy was charged with drink-driving and remanded in custody to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court where he pleaded guilty the next day.

He was banned from driving for 20 months, fined £200 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Superintendent Jane Derrick, the head of Sussex Police's roads policing unit, said: "Within 36 hours of us catching Cougy, justice had been done and he had been banned from the roads.

"He may have thought that the streets would be clear of police officers at 5am on a Thursday but his case proves that we are out and about around the clock every day hunting and catching drivers who are putting themselves and other people at risk by getting the behind the wheel after drinking or taking drugs."

A total of 48 people have now been charged this month as part of Operation Dragonfly, Sussex Police's crackdown on drink and drug-driving.

Marian Jones was arrested at 2.30pm on Wednesday (June 11) after officers stopped her car in Crowhurst Road, Brighton.

Jones, 63, of Waldron Avenue, Brighton, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on July 31.

Paul Hardy was arrested at 10.30pm on Wednesday after his van hit a bin in Thompson Road, Brighton.

Hardy, 47, of Windlesham Road, Brighton, was charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis and released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on July 31.

Marius Zielnski was arrested at 2.35am on Thursday (June 12) after his car was stopped in Woodfield Road, Crawley.

Zielnski, 32, of Highams Hill, Crawley, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on July 2.

David Jeffrey was arrested at 10.50pm on Thursday after his vehicle was stopped by officers in Folders Lane, Burgess Hill.

Jeffrey, 33, of Little Victory Mount, Chatham, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court on July 2.

Mariuszk Kowolik was arrested at 11.45pm on Thursday after his vehicle hit a parked car in Seaside Road, Eastbourne.

Kowolik, 51, of Maplehurst Road, Eastbourne, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates' Court on June 25.

Susan Pollington was arrested at 7.05pm on Friday (June 13) after she was found behind the wheel of a car in Knight's Hill, Charlton.

Pollington, 57, of Charlton Road, Singleton, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on September 23.

Donald Kirk was arrested at 10.55pm on Friday after he was stopped in a drink-drive check.

Kirk, 43, of Jesmond Road, Hove, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on July 31.

Karen Cavie was arrested at 1.30am on Saturday (June 14) after she was seen behind the wheel of a car in Chyngton Close, Eastbourne.

Cavie, 44, of Chyngton Close, Eastbourne, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Hastings Magistrates' Court on July 30.

Daniel Hunter was arrested at 2.35pm on Saturday after officers stopped his car in Victoria Drive, Bognor Regis.

Hunter, 25, of Victoria Drive, Bognor Regis, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on September 23.

Curtis Pelly was arrested at 1.30am on Sunday (June 15) after officers saw his car being driven in the dark with no lights on.

Pelly, 27, of Maplehurst Road, Chichester, was charged with drink-driving and driving without insurance and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on September 23.

Lisa-Marie Peckham was arrested at 1.55am on Sunday after a crash in High Street, Bognor Regis.

Peckham, 28, of Copenhagen Way, Walton-on-Thames, was charged with failing to provide a specimen for analysis, driving without a licence and assaulting a police officer. She was and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on September 30.

Clive Sim was arrested at 4.25am on Sunday after his vehicle was seen being driven erratically in Chester Avenue, Lancing.

Sim, 44, of Ham Road, Worthing, was charged with drink-driving and driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition. He was released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on September 30.

Deborah Clayson was arrested at 7.20am on Sunday after her car was stopped in Brighton Road, Shoreham.

Clayson, 56, of Wickhurst Rise, Portslade, was charged with drink-driving and released on bail to appear at Worthing Magistrates' Court on September 30.

Colin Cameron was arrested at 8.15am on Sunday after he was found behind the wheel of his car in Arundel Road West, Peacehaven.

Cameron, 26, of Sutton Avenue, Peacehaven, was charged with being drunk in charge of a motor vehicle. He was released on bail to appear at Brighton Magistrates' Court on July 10.
