A DENTAL hygienist can almost see the finish line of her 500-mile walk.

Christina Chatfield will finish 500 Miles for Smiles on June 19 at the Big Beach Café in Hove after starting at Kirriemuir in Scotland.

After starting the walk on May 19, Thursday will mark the end of an incredible month for Christina, who is raising cash and awareness for mouth cancer.

Ms Chatfield said: “The support of my fellow professionals has been extremely heart warming.

“Even though I am suffering from shin splints, I am less than 40 miles away from Brighton, which seems like not a lot given how far I have come.”

Ms Chatfield has currently raised more than £10,000 for the British Dental Health Foundation and hopes to raise £15,000 by the time she reaches Hove.

She said: “The more money I can raise. The more people we can help to educate about the disease and the risk factors.”

Nigel Carter, chief executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, said: “She has walked more than 400 miles so far, so let’s have one final push to get Christina over the £15,000 mark.

“It would be a fantastic achievement and reflects the spirit and support of the dental profession, not to mention everyone who joined her or contributed.”

Ms Chatfield is a dental hygienist and owns Brighton Dental Health Spa on Queens Road in Brighton.
