Police have donated hundreds of pounds to help produce a play about gypsy and traveller communities.

Sussex Police donated £250 to ‘Friends Families and Travellers’ to assist the creation of ‘Crystal’s Vardo’ – a play about a girl’s journey through Romany History and her quest to piece together her ancestry.

The donation coincides with Gypsy, Roma and Traveller History Month, which takes place throughout June.

The month aims to celebrate the culture of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities and tackle negative stereotyping and prejudice.

Sussex Police’s gypsy and traveller equality champion, superintendent Lawrence Hobbs, will be attending a screening of the film on Sunday.

He said:"It is a pleasure to support such a worthwhile cause. Anything we can do to highlight the stigma and challenges that the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities face is extremely important and I can't wait to sit down and enjoy the show."

The play will be shown on Sunday at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street, Brighton, at 2.30pm. For more information and to book tickets call 01273 234821.
