A new technology conference is expected to bring an economic boost of more than £3.5 million to Brighton and Hove.
VisitBrighton’s has won the bid to host the IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing beating off competition from around the world including United States, Brazil and Singapore.
It is the first time the organisation has chosen an English destination for its annual event when it comes to Brighton between May 12 and May 17 2019.
Up to 3000 delegates from across Europe are expected to attend the six day conference which will be held at the seafront Brighton Centre.
The conference will feature world-class speakers, tutorials, exhibits, and over 170 lecture and poster sessions.
The city’s successful bid was backed by VisitEngland’s CEO James Berresford and tourism minister Helen Grant.
VisitBrighton’s sales manager Darren Johnson said: “This win puts us in very good company and reaffirms our position as a top flight international destination.”
Event organiser, Saeid Sanei, Reader in Biomedical Signal Processing, says: “We were very impressed with what Brighton has to offer as a city and strong transport links will make it easy for our delegates to reach, wherever they’re travelling from.
“The Brighton Centre has a no-nonsense, comprehensive range of flexible meeting halls and breakout spaces and an impressive seafront location.”
