A STARLING named after England football flop Danny Welbeck has been rescued from a garden bird feeder.

Volunteers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service (WRAS) were rushed to a garden in Uckfield where they found the hungry bird stuck in the bottom of a fat ball feeder.

They had to use wire cutters to get him out, with his head, wings and legs all sticking through different holes in the feeder.

He is currently at WRAS’ casualty centre in Whitesmith, near Hailsham where he is being treated for bruising and injuries to his thigh, back and wings. He was named after the Manchester United player as he too had suffered a thigh injury during England’s failed World Cup campaign.
