Escaped Ford prisoner recaptured following appeal

The Argus: Escaped Ford prisoner recaptured following appeal Escaped Ford prisoner recaptured following appeal

An escaped armed robber has been caught after nearly a fortnight on the run.

David Blood, who was serving a life sentence, absconded from Ford on Thursday June but was recaptured on Tuesday.

The 48-year-old had been jailed for life at Stafford Crown Court in 2003 after he was convicted of robbing a post office with a number of other men in the West Midlands in December 2000.

Sussex Police said they had issued a number of appeals for information and officers liaised with a number of forces across the country to try to trace him.

He was arrested at about 7pm on Tuesday in Winchester by Hampshire police officers.

Blood was one of eight inmates who were the subject of a renewed Sussex Police appeal earlier this month.

The force admitted earlier this week that one of the absconders, Christopher Street, had actually handed himself back in 13 years ago and served his sentence.

Detective Inspector Russ Burgess said: "Blood was arrested after information was received that he was in Winchester.

"He has now been charged and is in the custody of Hampshire police.

"We are continuing to track down and arrest men who have absconded from Ford Prison and will not stop until each and every one has been returned to custody to complete their sentence."

Blood will appear at Basingstoke Magistrates' Court today charged with escaping from lawful custody.

Anyone with information about absconders should call 101, email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call 0800 555111.

Assuming that none of the others actually handed themselves in and competed their sentences years ago. I wonder what compensation Sussex Police are offering to that poor guy for the distress caused?
