The nephew of Hollywood film star is fighting for his life after falling from a telephone box.

Liam Neeson’s nephew Ronan Sexton remains in hospital with a “serious head injury” after a 20 foot fall on Brighton seafront.

The 31-year-old from Worthing is being treated at the neurological unit at Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath after being injured on the night out with friends.

Paramedics and police officers were called to the scene at 4am on Sunday morning.

His mother Bernadette Sexton, who is the sister of the Star Wars and Taken film star Neeson, was not at the family home in Worthing yesterday.

Her partner Harry Shannon told a national newspaper that she had been at her son’s bedside all day.

Mr Shannon said that Neeson, who lives in Manhattan with his two teenage boys, had contacted the family about the tragic incident.

It is the latest heartbreak to befall the family following the death of Neeson’s wife Natasha Richardson more than five years ago.

The actress died after a freak accident during a skiing lesson at a Canadian resort in 2009.

Mrs Sexton suffered her own heartbreak after her former partner Brian died in 2005 aged just 56 after the headteacher’s long battle with alcoholism and depression.

Ronan is the second youngest of six Sexton children.

Best wishes of support have been posted on Ronan’s Facebook page wishing him “a full and speedy recovery”.

A Sussex police spokesman said: “Just after 4am on Sunday June 22 a 31-year-old Worthing man had climbed on to the top of a telephone kiosk outside Brighton Pier when he fell 20ft to the ground, sustaining a serious head injury.

“He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital and was later transferred to Hurstwood Park Hospital in Haywards Heath where he is currently in a critical condition.

“The man had been enjoying a night out with friends, who were present when he fell, and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.

“There is no further police investigation.”
