A woman was raped by a stranger in the toilets of a pub.

The victim, a 24-year-old woman from Brighton, was in the Fishbowl pub on East Street on Friday night (June 27) with a friend, when she visited the toilets and was raped by a man she didn't know.

Th rape is believed to have taken place between 1.30am and 3am on Saturday morning.

Detective Inspector Vicki Harris said: "The victim is obviously very distressed by what happened and we are giving her support by specially trained officers.

"The suspect is described as being white but tanned, in his late 20s or early 30s, fairly short and slim build.

"He was wearing a white T-shirt with the words Colombia on it, wearing a black denim shirt open over the top.

"He had on dark trousers and was carrying a black rusksack. He is also believed to be a Spanish speaker."

"We are appealing to anyone who saw a man matching this description in the Fishbowl or in the East Street area between 1.30am and 3am on Saturday.

"We would urge anyone with information about this incident or witnessed anything suspicious, to contact police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Emery."
