Demolition finished at West Pier

The Argus: Demolition finished at West Pier Demolition finished at West Pier

DEMOLITION work at Brighton's West Pier site is being completed to be ready for the construction of the i360 tower.

Workers have spent the last month clearing part of the platform from the former Victorian attraction and are expected to finish the demolition work today or tomorrow.

Contractors from the i360 will move in with the first phase, involving construction of the access road.

The £46.2 million attraction, which will be 160 metres tall, is set to open in summer 2016. Some artefacts – including one of the former West Pier toll booths – will be preserved.

Other parts will be kept in storage and eventually form part of a planned West Pier heritage garden near the site.

to be fair, while i actually like the greens IN PRINCIPLE - the reality of what they've done to the city in their administration is PERFECTLY encompassed by a large pink doughnut sliding up and down a gargantuan shaft repeatedly, costing money every time it goes.

That flat area looks rather nice.Just tidy it up a bit and we could think of something interesting to do with it,at a very reasonable price.

Like a replacement pier, perhaps. And wile I am on the subject, let us rebuild the Chain Pier too so that pleasure cruisers can dock, rather like the paddle steamer that uses Worthing Pier to board passengers. Just to annoy the Noble organisation.

Every time I read an article on this I-sore the price goes up and up.
1st it was £34 million then £38 million, now it's £46.2 and not a forensic
accountant in sight.
