A man was bitten on the arm by a "pit bull" dog.

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in Hastings on June 22. 

The man was with a group of friends who were playing with the dog in Wellington Square at around 7.45pm when he was bitten on the left forearm.

He was taken to the Conquest Hospital, Hastings, where he remained for four days and underwent two operations.

The dog's owner drove away from the scene with the dog in his car.

The make of the car is unknown but the dog has been described as a pit bull type that is black and yellow in colour.

Police would like to talk to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any other information about it.
