Two restaurants have been named among the top Indian restaurants in the country.

Indian Summer, in East Street, Brighton, and Chilli Pickle, in Jubilee Street, were named in the 2014 Best In Britain Restaurant Awards (BIBA) which recognise high standards in the ethnic restaurant sector.

Minesh Agnihotri, co-owner of Indian Summer, said: “Indian Summer has already been named as one of the top 100 Indian restaurants by the Cobra Good Curry Guide, so to be on an even shorter list of 50 in such exalted company as Michelin-starred venues like London restaurants Tamarind, Benares and Quilon is a fantastic recognition.”

Founded in 1993 BIBA is the longest running annual awardsceremony of its kind.

Restaurants are nominated and voted for by the public.

A shortlist is then decided by an expert panel led by the editors of Mood Food Magazine.

Chilli Pickle has also been named in the National Restaurant Association’s top restaurants for the fourth year in a row.

Mr Agnihotri said: “It’s also been great to have another top Indian restaurant like Chilli Pickle asneighbours here in Brighton. They really keep us in our toes, which is good for everybody.”

Last year Indian Summer also received a TripAdvisor certificate of excellence, which places the restaurant in the top performing 10 per cent of all businesses worldwide on the TripAdvisor customer reviewwebsite.

Other awards include an AA Rosette and an Open Table Best Restaurant award.

The restaurant was founded in 2001 by Mr Agnihotri, who had had a career making medical prosthetics, and Byron Swales, who as a child was forced with his family to flee the oppressive Burmese government in a wooden plane.

On July 26 Indian Summer will host a masquerade charity ball in aid of Eastern Indian Palliative Care, an organisation which supports patients and families with lifethreatening conditions.

The black tie and ball gown masked event will feature street food by Indian Summer, a cocktail bar, ice cream stall, masked photos, charity auction and raffle.

It takes place at Brighton and Hove Sixth Form College from 7.30pm until midnight.

Tickets are available priced £18 at www.indian-summer.org.uk/masquerade-ball.
