Two Beatles fans who queued as children to see the fab four’s debut film will perform as their musical heroes to mark the 50th anniversary of its premiere.

John and Mike Mountford from the Vox Beatles will perform at the Duke of York’s in Brighton on Monday to mark the 50th anniversary of the release of a Hard Day’s Night.

John, who plays Ringo Starr in the Brighton-based tribute act, and Mike, who plays John Lennon, queued up to see the first screening of the film in Brighton at the Astoria in Gloucester Place as enthusiastic young fans.

Mike said: “The queue was completely around the block and I can still recall the impact that watching it had on us both.

“Even at the time, when we came out from seeing the film, we said to each other wouldn't it be great if we could one day perform Beatles songs in an old fashioned cinema.

“Fifty years on, this dream is about to come true.”

To mark the anniversary, both brothers in the band have been in contact with a Brighton-based star of the film, Anna Quayle.

The 81-year-old actress, who also starred in the original Casino Royal and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, starred as Millie in the film and enjoyed a special staircase scene with John Lennon.

She showed John Mountford original photos from the film with Anna and Lennon together backstage and also with the other members of the Beatles and told him that they were “great guys to work with".

Mike said that the band will be performing all the songs from the film on the night plus many of the big early hits and promised that the event would be “a night not to be missed”.
