RECORD crowds of 200,000 flocked to the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The 2014 event was the largest and most successful in the its history, attracting 200,000 spectators to the grounds of Goodwood House.

Motorsport superstars and guests were treated to four days of non-stop entertainment, on June 26-29.

The theme of the festival was Addicted to Winning, with Lewis Hamilton, Sir Jackie Stewart, Sir Stirling Moss and Kimi Raikkonen all making the journey up the famous Goodwood hill.

Lord March, owner of the Goodwood Estate, said: “Once again the Festival of Speed has produced a thrilling spectacle on the Hillclimb and delighted hundreds of thousands of visitors who have brought their enthusiasm for motorsport to Goodwood.

“With reams of guests, that include seven Formula 1 world champions and some of the greatest drivers from NASCAR, rallying, sportscars and motorcycling, we’ve managed to gather more famous names from motorsport than ever before.”

There was also a record attendance for the first day of the festival, which included the Moving Motor Show by the AA. Ferrari, BMW and Mercedes-Benz were among an all-time high of 20 exhibiters at the show.

New machinery was on display with the new Bentley Continental GT3 R and Honda NSX Concept gleaming in the sunshine.

The Michelin Supercar run created a popular winner in gamer-turned-racer Jann Mardenborough, who smashed the supercar record for the Goodwood Hill Climb, completing it in 49.27 seconds.

A car enthusiast left the festival with a much lighter wallet after buying a restored, 1954 Ferrari 375 Plus for a staggering £10.8 million.
