ONE of the UK’s most wanted men was arrested as he arrived in the UK and has been charged over a multimillion pound fraud.

Jeffrey Bloor, pictured, a former director of Worthing FC, has been charged with conspiracy to defraud and money laundering in relation to a horse race betting and investment scandal.

Bloor, formerly of Wraysbury Gardens, Lancing, is alleged to have worked with three other men to defraud £5 million from their clients.

He has been on the run since June 2012 when he failed to report for bail. Hundreds of thousands of fraudulent brochures were sent unsolicited to consumers across the country, with evidence suggesting that this had been happening since 1999.

The brochures all contained promises and guarantees of profits as well as testimonials from satisfied users, most of which are thought to be fictitious.

Bloor, 41, appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court yesterday and was granted bail to appear in Lewes Crown Court on August 7.

The allegations are that Bloor made false claims in relation to the betting services, made false claims in relation to investment services and sought and received payment in relation to these services.

Bloor was arrested by detectives from the Sussex Police Major Fraud Unit, on a warrant issued by Brighton Magistrates, when he arrived at Stansted Airport on a flight from Cyprus on Thursday afternoon.

The conspiracy charge alleges that between April 30, 2003 and February 13, 2008, he conspired with other men to defraud prospective participants.

Detective Sergeant Sally Smith, of the Sussex Major Fraud Unit, said: “Bloor’s details were released to the media on July 23, 2012 as part of efforts to trace him.

“He featured as part of the Crimestoppers Most Wanted ‘Op Zygos’ publicity campaign and we have also been working with the National Crime Agency.

“That publicity and co-operation has helped to secure his arrest.”

Steve Bennett, the National Crime Agency’s head of European operations, said: “This is a great example of the effectiveness of our ‘most wanted’ campaigns.

“Many fugitives are located as a result of law enforcement operations or information from the public. In this case the publicity was a major factor and Bloor handed himself in.”
