Counterfeit cigarettes were seized by officers from Trading Standards.

After a test purchase was carried out by Sussex Police at a shop called Burgess Hill Market in Church Walk, Burgess Hill, officers from West Sussex County Council Trading Standards seized a quantity of cigarettes from the property.

One member of staff accepted a police caution on July 2 and another, Amir Asadi, 27, of Sultan Rd, London E11, was charged with two offences will appear at Crawley Magistrates Court on July 23.

PC Phil King of the Neighbourhood licensing team said "Counterfeit cigarettes are a significant health hazard.

"This type of operation demonstrates the importance of a number of different agencies working together to ensure the safety of the community.

"Sussex Police are committed to tackling this type of crime and should anyone have information concerning smuggled or counterfeit goods, please contact Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk. You can also contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

They are a health hazard? err i hate to break it to you.

What exactly do they mean by counterfeit? They aren't made from tobacco? Or simply that no tax is paid on them?
