Two people were stabbed in Brighton on Saturday afternoon (July 5).

Around 3pm police were called to the park in Dorset Gardens to two people who had been stabbed. A 43-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman had both received stab wounds to their backs. The man was treated and released the same day.

The woman's injury was more serious and she remains in a stable condition in hospital.

Detective Inspector Mick Jones said: "There are two suspects involved. One is described as black, in his 20s, approximately 6', of muscular build, wearing a bright blue hooded top and dark trousers. The second suspect is described as white, also in his 20s, slightly shorter than the other man, slim build wearing a grey hooded top. Both men had their hoods up.

"This took place in a busy area during broad daylight and we are appealing to anyone who was in Dorset Gardens around 3pm and might have seen a small group of people in the park area. We would also like to hear from anyone who was on St James's Street or Edward Street and might have seen people matching this description in the area.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting Operation Alfa.
