A taxi driver was left with serious facial injuries after being attacked by his passengers.

Shortly after midnight on July 5, four men got into a pre-booked taxi outside the Half Moon pub in Brighton Road, Southgate, Crawley.

As the taxi turned into Stevenage Road, Bewbush, the men started punching the driver to the head.

He managed to stop the car and the men got out and ran off.

The victim, 43, is still receiving treatment for his his jaw, which has been broken in two places, and for facial cuts.

Two local men aged 23 and 21, arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm, were later released without any action being taken against them.

Police are continuing their investigation.

Detective Constable Simon Goulding said: "This was a cowardly attack on a man going about his lawful business.

"We hope local people will know who did this and let us know.

"We also seek witnesses to the four men leaving the pub and who saw anything else that might help."

People are asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 0066 of 5/7.

Yes, what 'men' they are.

Hopefully the taxi driver will be able to identify them.
