The frustration of finding a ‘sorry we missed you’ card on your doormat could be over for train passengers.

A staffed online shopping collection and returns service will offer commuters the at Brighton Station the chance to pick up and try on their purchases without having to walk to the sorting office.

The new service, called Doddle, will be open every day and feature a changing room alongside a member of staff to help you with your parcels.

Following a successful pilot in Milton Keynes, Brighton will be one of the first Doddle collection points nationwide as part of the £24 million rollout later this year. Brighton’s store is due to open in the middle of October.

A spokesman for Southern Rail said: “The concept of Doddle is an interesting one and we look forward to them coming to Brighton Station.

“We’re sure our passengers will make good use of the service, which will complement the already superb retail facilitates at the station.”

Busy commuters can stop off at the station, pick up their parcel and even have the option to send it back via the counter.

Tim Robinson, chief executive at Doddle, and former route managing director, Sussex at Network Rail said: “We created Doddle to improve the online shopping experience. We’re not another ‘me too’ click-and-collect offer, it’s a game-changing service consumers are crying out for but no one else can provide.

“It is the next major step in online shopping, providing a parcel collection, returns and delivery service that has customer choice and convenience at its very heart.

“What’s more, we are delivery carrier and retailer agnostic so any brand can offer the Doddle service to their customers.”

The scheme is being run by Network Rail in conjunction with millionaire philanthropist Lloyd Dorfman.

Robin Gisby, Network Rail managing director, said: “More people are travelling by rail than ever before and stations have become more than just a place to wait for, or get off a train.”

Leading online brands such as ASOS and New Look are already offering the service, alongside their own click-and-collect and next-day delivery services.
