A warning of thunderstorms producing heavy rain in Sussex tonight has been issued by the Met Office.

The service is urging people to be prepared for heavy rain, expected to hit the county tonight between 9pm-11:45pm and carry on throughout Saturday.

This will bring an increased risk of flooding to localised areas.

It is expected that the weather will have cleared up by early Sunday morning but .

A spokesperson said: "Heavy, thundery downpours are expected to develop later on Friday evening across southern England.

"These are likely to be isolated initially but become more widespread overnight with the risk of some locally large rainfall totals giving rise to surface water flooding.

"Lightning, hail and gusty may also be added hazards.

"The public should be aware of the potential for localised disruption."
