A lifeboat crew has issued a warning after two revellers were rescued from the sea.

Brighton RNLI volunteer crew was called out at 4.26am on Sunday morning.

The police made the emergency call after a man and woman were reported in the water.

The pair was found directly out from the West Street area of Brighton.

A RNLI spokesman said: “They were both in their 20s and had been out drinking.

“The woman was fully clothed and the male part-clothed. They were about 200metres out when we got to them.

“The woman was given oxygen and taken to the shore where she was treated by South East Coast Ambulance service.”

He added: “The message we want to get out is that alcohol and the sea do not mix”.
