Nando's to open its first airport restaurant at Gatwick

First published in News

An airport is to become the first in the world to host a Nando’s restaurant.

The new branch of the Portuguese restaurant chain will open this Wednesday at the Sussex airport’s South Terminal.

It will be the fifth Nando’s restaurant in Sussex following other stores in Chichester, Crawley and two in Brighton.

Maybe in return Nandos can 'do a first' and pay tax!

I've never understood why people think Nandos is fast food and comparable to McDonalds, Burger King etc. it's fresh grilled chicken in pitta bread with salad or rice. The only dodgy thing is chips but the portions are small. As a treat this is where I head with my kids rather than visiting Ronald and think its a much healthier option for families eating out. I can only imagine those above commenting have never frequented one.

Fresh grilled! Have you looked over the counter? They have big metal drawers full of chicken that's cooked early morning and kept hot all day!

The dodgiest thing about Nandos is their claim that they use chickens raised to a high standard of animal welfare. They don't. They use chickens raised in huge barns by their thousands, fattened artificially and never let our to see the outside world. Many die horrible painful deaths in these barns. That's why I would never eat there.

That's news??????

The Argus have received a call from the Nandos or Gatwick press office and given them free advertising. Naive to save the least.

As I received the most thumbs down for pointing out that easy jet customers can eat there, I can only assume that easyjet is calling the tune or people on here have no sense of humour. Surely it can't be the latter....or maybe it's the haute cuisine diners who don't like the slur....

I assume all those condemning Nando's normally go and eat at the pub at Gatwick?

Firstly, Nando's is NOT Portuguese, it's Mozambican/ Portuguese FOOD, and is in fact a South African company.

The company is a responsible UK tax-payer, as you can easily google if you aren't so introverted to not believe anything other than the Guardian.

And on the side of the food, it's quite open about the fact they use a premium supplier of free-range chicken, which has been verified in the media (much to the chagrin of the Daily Mail).

Of course, not that they are worried about a bunch of narrow-minded whingers on the Argus website - the queues at both their Brighton restaurants, as well as their other stores throughout the country (and world) indicate you're probably wrong.

Happy to be thumbed-down in this case, and proud to be South African.
