SUN-SEEKERS have been warned after a man was caught tombstoning with a kayak.

The RNLI and lifeguards issued the warning about the dangerous practice after an Argus photographer captured a man jumping in off Brighton beach with a kayak.

The man was carrying out the dangerous stunt in front of a crowd of people off a groyne near the bandstand.

Police have warned youngsters tombstoning could lead to serious injury or even drowning.

Sergeant Stuart Mullins said every year people die around the UK from tombstoning and asked parents to emphasise this to children going to the beach.

A spokesman for the RNLI also warned people about the extreme dangers of jumping into shallow water, adding that rocks are not always visible.
