A suspicious man keeps being spotted in gardens in the early hours of the morning.

Over the course of several weeks since early June, police in Bexhill have received various reports of a man trespassing in private gardens late at night or in the early hours of the morning.

He has been spotted in different locations around the town, including Reginald Road, Mayfair Mews, Elderwood Close, Jubilee Close and Woodsgate Park, where the most recent incident occurred.

No loss or damage has occurred, but the incidents are being treated as suspicious.

It would appear that the same man is responsible on each occasion, and he has run off when challenged by householders.

Sergeant Mark Evans, of Bexhill’s Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Understandably, people may be concerned.

“I would like to reassure them that police are taking these reports seriously and they are being thoroughly investigated.

“We’re mounting high-visibility patrols to deter or catch the suspect, whom we believe to be the same person.”

Sgt Evans urged anyone who finds a trespasser on their property or a neighbour's property to phone 999 immediately and to stay in their homes until police arrive.
