A historic pool had a late opening – after being inundated by flying pests.

Pells Pool in Lewes opened three hours past its usual midday opening on Monday as staff had to clear away a large number of flying ants which had met an untimely death in the swimming pool waters.

The ants were just an inconvenience at the pool, but in fact they eat pests, pollinate wild berries, spread seeds and improve soil fertility.
Seeing a big swarm can be quite magical and they will do you no harm.
