A hospital has won an award recognising high standards in building design.

The Nuffield Health Brighton Hospital was given a Macmillan Quality Environment Mark (MQEM) for offering high standards of care for people affected by cancer.

The award, run by the charity Macmillan Cancer Support, specifically assesses how well departments such as chemotherapy and palliative units provide support and care.

Geoff Bailey, director of the Woodingdean-based hospital, said: “We are thrilled to receive this prestigious award.

“We could not have done it without the help of the dedicated oncology nursing team and all other staff who work on a daily basis, including our therapists, counsellors and fundraisers.”

The MQEM scheme is open to any healthcare providers from the public, voluntary or private sectors that operate cancer care buildings.

Macmillan development manager Rebecca Hawkins said: “To receive the award, environments have to score highly in areas such as use of space, comfort and atmosphere, personal and social interaction and health and wellbeing.”
