An out-of-control family car crossed two lanes of oncoming traffic before smashing into a seafront shelter injuring two pedestrians.

The Renault Scenic was travelling eastbound on Marine Parade in Brighton when it veered towards the sea and ended up on the promenade.

The incident happened near the junction to Lower Rock Gardens and after hitting the shelter, the car travelled 40 to 50 yards before coming to a halt against the railings.

After leaving the road, the Scenic careered down the promenade between the shelter and the railings.

A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "Three people have been injured after a car left the road and crashed into a bus shelter in Brighton.

"Emergency services were called to the scene in Marine Parade at 12.01pm on Wednesday.

"It is believed at this stage that the injured people are two pedestrians and the driver of the car, but there are currently no details with regard to the scale of those injuries.
