A lifeboat man has received an esteemed honour for his role in brave attempts to rescue a teenager in extreme storm conditions.

Paul Legendre was among a number Newhaven lifeboat crew and fundraisers who have been recognised with awards for their contributions to the RNLI.

Mr Legendre received the Thanks of the Institution on Vellum from RNLI chairman Charles Hunter-Pease OBE for his role in the search for 14-year-old Dylan Atkins, who was swept into the sea off Newhaven's West Beach in October last year while his crew were presented with a framed letters of thanks.

A one-minute silence was held at the ceremony this week as a mark of respect for Dylan who has not been found.

Treasurer Roy Fenner, vice-chairman Peter Mercer and fundraisers Graham and Paula Hillman were also recognised.
