WEALDEN District Council is making the biggest change to its electoral system in 100 years.

The electoral registration officer is writing to the district’s 120,000 constituents to explain about the new system of individual electoral registration.

Samantha Mills, head of campaigns at the Electoral Commission, said: “We welcome this change, which will lead to a more secure register and replace the outdated Victorian concept that a single head of household is responsible for registering everyone.”

From the end of July, Wealden residents will receive a letter telling them if they have been transferred to the new register or not.

People who have not been transferred need to provide additional information which will be explained in the letter.

If you have not received a letter by the end of August, contact Wealden’s elections team at elections@wealden.gov.uk or call 01892 602417.
