A national festival that celebrates inspiring and innovative young people set up camp in Brighton.

The ‘summer of somewhereto_’ arts festival came to Circus Street from Thursday to Sunday last week – bringing with it more than 100 artists all aged 16 to 25.

Paintings and videos to photography and sculptures were on display as part of a national event supported by a £7m grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Brighton joined the likes of Glasgow, Leicester and London by holding an exhibition - with each region hosting a plethora of exciting one-off events and activities based around music, dance and theatre performances, food, clothing apparel and designs, film screenings, exhibitions, workshops, master-classes and panel discussions.

Brighton kicked off celebrations at Circus Street with an exhibition of works from painters, illustrators, photographers and large interactive sculptures.

Ashleigh Ward, south east coordinator for somewhereto_ said: “The artists exhibiting were a mixture of students from the university and younger artists that haven’t gone to further education. Everyone was very enthusiastic about the space and the sculptors created work especially for it.”

Caroline Lucas, Green MP for Brighton Pavilion, said: “It was a brilliant use of space, both challenging and exciting.”
